Check the reasoning, not just the result

Fifth-grade practice brings together multi-step calculations, fractions, and more detailed reading. A short session gives you a chance to see whether the difficulty is the calculation, the vocabulary, or deciding what the question asks. Begin with a few questions and review the answer explanations together. In your account, completed work builds a grade-specific record for the parent dashboard. One session is a starting point, not a judgment about your child.

Reading practice includes questions about meaning, evidence, vocabulary, and how a text is organized. Math skills in the current Grade 5 question bank include:

  • Fraction operations
  • Whole-number division
  • Volume
  • Numerical expressions
  • Decimal multiplication
  • Coordinate plane
  • Multi-digit multiplication
  • Place value and rounding

Answer: 17/12

Use twelfths: 2/3 = 8/12 and 3/4 = 9/12. The total is 17/12 cups.

Identify the given quantities and the relationship needed to solve the problem.

Two useful conversations for Grade 5

A math prompt to try together

Before working a multi-step problem, ask your child to circle the question and name what each number represents. An accurate calculation can still answer the wrong question.

A reading prompt to try together

Compare two short texts on the same topic. Name one point both make and one detail found in only one text. Keep the evidence beside each observation.

These are suggested home discussions, not official test items or an assessment of your child. Explore math practice or reading practice for more context.

Where this fits alongside school testing

Official Grade 5 FAST assessments cover ELA Reading and Mathematics, with three progress-monitoring administrations each year. Your school provides schedules, results, and accommodation guidance.

Our baseline and practice checks do not replace PM1, PM2, or PM3, and the dashboard does not predict an official score.

After the session

Ask your child to explain one answer. Look at the skill in the parent dashboard, then choose another short set or lesson if they need more practice. Repeated difficulty is a useful reason to speak with their teacher, not a diagnosis from the app.
