From counting to explaining a method
Third-grade practice starts with multiplication, division, and reading closely enough to explain an answer. Ask your child to tell you how they worked it out, not just which option they picked. Begin with a few questions and review the answer explanations together. In your account, completed work builds a grade-specific record for the parent dashboard. One session is a starting point, not a judgment about your child.
Reading practice includes questions about meaning, evidence, vocabulary, and how a text is organized. Math skills in the current Grade 3 question bank include:
- Addition and subtraction
- Place value and rounding
- Equivalent fractions
- Area
- Related multiplication and division
- Compose and decompose numbers
- Multiply tens and hundreds
- Compare and order numbers

Addition and subtraction · MA.3.NSO.2.1
A school collects 468 cans on Monday and 257 on Tuesday. It sends 390 cans to a food pantry. How many cans remain?
- 335
- 725
- 78
- 375
Show the answer and explanation
Answer: 335
468 + 257 = 725 collected. Subtract the 390 sent: 725 − 390 = 335 cans.
Identify the given quantities and the relationship needed to solve the problem.

A math prompt to try together
Draw three equal groups of four objects. Ask your child to explain why 3 × 4 and 4 + 4 + 4 describe the same total. If the drawing helps more than the symbols, keep both visible.
A reading prompt to try together
After a short story, ask what the main character wanted and which action shows that. Have your child point to a sentence instead of answering from memory.
These are suggested home discussions, not official test items or an assessment of your child. Explore math practice or reading practice for more context.
Where this fits alongside school testing
Official Grade 3 FAST assessments cover ELA Reading and Mathematics, with three progress-monitoring administrations each year. Your school provides schedules, results, and accommodation guidance.
Our baseline and practice checks do not replace PM1, PM2, or PM3, and the dashboard does not predict an official score.
After the session
Ask your child to explain one answer. Look at the skill in the parent dashboard, then choose another short set or lesson if they need more practice. Repeated difficulty is a useful reason to speak with their teacher, not a diagnosis from the app.
