An answer should have evidence behind it.

Reading questions in the app cover literary elements, theme, central idea, text structure, point of view, vocabulary in context, and argument and evidence. The intended benchmark and language vary by grade.
- Grades 3–5: Start by explaining what happens in a passage and which details support an answer.
- Grades 6–8: Discuss how structure, perspective, and word choice affect meaning.
- Grades 9–10: Look closely at arguments, conflicting information, and relationships among ideas.
What to do when two answers seem possible
Ask your child to point to a sentence or detail that supports each answer. Then ask which choice answers the whole question rather than only one part of it. This keeps the discussion tied to the text.
In the app, use the explanation after a practice response. If reading itself is the barrier, shorten the session and speak with the teacher about appropriate support. Do not treat a single practice result as a reading diagnosis.
Reading is not the writing assessment
This product’s ELA offering is reading practice. It does not provide an official B.E.S.T. Writing assessment or a scored writing exam. Florida’s Writing assessments are separate from FAST Reading progress monitoring.
What parents can follow
See which reading skills have been attempted and review session history for each child. Use recurring patterns to choose another practice set or ask the teacher a more specific question.
The dashboard reports this app’s activity, not a reading age, school grade, or predicted FAST score. See the parent-view guide →
